According to my kids

I saw this post on the blog of one of my dearest friends and I was
intrigued as to what my kids would say when asked the following questions.
1. What is something mom always says to you?
Alexa: "Because"
Mackenzie: "Kenzie boo boo"
Dayton: "life isn't fair"

2. What makes mom happy?
Alexa: Not fighting
Mackenzie: "When I am obedient"
Dayton: "When we all get along."

3. What makes mom sad?
Alexa:When we don;t get along
Mackenzie: When we make messes
Dayton: When we fight
4. How does your mom make you laugh?
Alexa: When she tells us stories about when we were little.
Mackenzie: When she does funny dances and tickles me
Dayton: "There is no way"
Apparently I never make Dayton laugh, which I must say is a fallacy. He laughs a lot with me, he just had a brain freeze.
5. What was your mom like as a child?
Alexa: "I don't know."
Mackenzie: "Little with long hair, I know from pictures. She was good."
Dayton: Playful
6. How old is your mom?
Alexa: Thirty- four
Mackenzie: Thirty- two
Dayton: Thirty-three

7. How tall is your mom?
Alexa: 5'8'
Mackenzie: 5'4"
Dayton: Five point feet

8. What is her favorite thing to do?
Alexa: Shop
Mackenzie: Read
Dayton: Cook
I don't know how Alexa came up with shopping. I am not a shopper.
9. What does your mom do when you're not around?
Alexa: Talk on the phone
Mackenzie: Read, nap, and cook
Dayton: Cover up presents

10. If your mom becomes famous, what will it be for?
Alexa: Most stores shopped in one day
WHAT? Are you kidding me?
Mackenzie: Cooking
Dayton: Shopping for sewing stuff
Again, are you kidding me. I can't sew to save my life.
What would I be doing shopping for sewing stuff?
11. What is your mom really good at?
Alexa: Cooking
Mackenzie: Playing the piano and singing
Dayton: Cooking
12. What is your mom not very good at?
Alexa: Sewing
Mackenzie: Sewing
Dayton: Playing video games
13. What does your mom do for her job?
Alexa: Take care of us
Mackenzie: Take care of us
Dayton: Be a mother
14. What is your mom's favorite food?
Alexa: Cilantro Dressing (Yes, this is yummy, but my favorite food...come on)
Mackenzie: Pizza
Dayton: Mac and Cheese
None of my kids came even close to my favorite food...Mexican!
15. What makes you proud of your mom?
Alexa: When she dances funny dances
Mackenzie: She's a good mom and a good cook and all those other good things
Dayton: When she makes my dinner
I don't think Dayton really understood the question.
16. If your mom were a cartoon character, who would she be?
Alexa: Wilma Flinstone
Mackenzie: Snow White
Dayton: Jerry, from Tom and Jerry

17. What do you and your mom do together?
Alexa: Dance and listen to music
Mackenzie: Flashcards
Dayton: Go shopping

18. How are you and your mom the same?
Alexa: We are both girls
Mackenzie: We have the same eyes
Dayton: We have brown hair

19. How are you and your mom different?
Alexa: She likes make-up and dressing up and I HATE it!
Mackenzie: She puts on make-up and I don't
Dayton: I'm littler that her
20. How do you know your mom loves you?
Alexa: She takes care of me and helps me
Mackenzie: She takes care of me
Dayton: She helps me read

This was fun and eye opening for me. I highly recommend the experience.

Skate Park

We visited a park the other day for the playground and found so much more. The park has a sprinkler area right next to it, a Frisbee golf course, and a skate park. The kids were begging to go back and try out the skate park. We did...this morning and they had a great time. Even Mackenzie, who didn't want to go. I didn't want to pack the bikes so we just took the scooters but it is a super fun park. The kids are talking about going back...tomorrow?

Bang Snaps

Our kids, especially Dayton, LOVE bang snaps. Nathan bought some while we were in Utah and (Dayton) has been asking every day if he can do them. Well the other night we got home a little late and the festivities began. Who knew 2 boxes of silly pouches of gun powder could provide so much enjoyment? This was one of the best night's of Dayton's life...It was fun to watch the strategy of each child. Dayton liked throwing a bunch but not too many because then his fun would be over too quickly. Alexa threw 49 of her 2nd box and it was a fantastic sound and snap. Mackenzie just enjoyed throwing one at a time...

Walk the Dog

Mackenzie has wanted to walk Harley everyday for the past little while. Harley LOVES to go on walks. She is just a little nuts and I think would rather run than walk. So Mackenzie usually gets dragged by Harley around the house or up and down the street...but they both have a good time.
Our little Mackenzie...she needed to take her baby on a walk. I was doing dishes and looked out the window and this is what I saw. She cracks me up.

The Page Family Reunion

We traveled to Utah to celebrate Nathan's parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. The whole family was able to attend except for one grandson who is on a mission. The kids had a great time seeing cousins and playing. The activities were fun and it was a great evening for Nathan's parents. On Saturday morning everyone was able to compete in a variety of games. One included hammering a nail into a two by four blindfolded. Nathan's dad is legally blind. It was quite humorous to see the competition. We also participated in a straw blowing contest and a straw javelin throw. Dayton was one of the winners in the straw blowing contest. For the night of the reception the kids and grand kids performed the Hukilau. It is a Hawaiian dance and it was quite fun to watch. Nathan's dad served his mission in Hawaii so the theme of the night was tropical. It was fun to see everybody...alot can change in 2 years. Early Sunday morning we headed home...back on the road again and we couldn't wait to get home.

Uncle Jordan

My brother Jordan came up to visit us from Provo on Saturday for a little bit. He was on his way to a blind date....It was great to see him and the kids enjoyed his attention. He brought the kids gift cards to Toys R Us and they have been chopping at the bit to get to Toys R Us ever since. I was grateful for the gift cards and not toys because we really didn't have room to pack home anything more.

Motorcycle Rides

For those who don't know, Nathan wants a motorcycle. He has since the day I met him but I only think of the news reports that indicate tragedy for those who ride motorcycles and loose their lives...needless to say. I don't want him to ride one on a regular basis. His brother, Eric, has a motorcycle and let Nathan borrow it for a night. Nathan took everyone for a ride and all the kids liked it. Mackenzie and Dayton wanted him to go slower...I haven't changed my mind. It was fun but I still think they are dangerous...paranoid wife that I am.

Kennecott Copper Mine, the Utah State Capitol

We were able to see the Kennecott Copper mine...very impressive to Nathan...the kids really enjoyed the gift shop. The medals for the 2002 Olympic games came from this mine and we were able to see the gold, silver, and bronze medals that were made...pretty cool. Each of the trucks that carries rock out of the mine has 6 of these tires. From the lookout point where we stood those trucks look like matchbox cars..

As a kid when we would travel to Utah on vacation, I remember Grandma taking us to the capitol for a picnic on the lawn and we would play on the steps and sit on the lions that "guarded" the entrance. Nathan attended prom inside of the capital when he was in high school. So we dropped by to relive some old memories. The most memorable part for me was when Nathan started teaching Alexa how to waltz in the rotunda on the marble floor. I have it on video. She was a willing participant.

This elevator inside of the capitol reminded me of the elevator on Thoroughly Modern Milly. Yet, we didn't need to tap to get it to start. If you haven't seen the movie...watch it.

Temple Square

We spent all day Thursday at Temple Square with my biological Dad, Dave. It was a beautiful day...a little hot, but nothing like Vegas. We visited the Tabernacle and heard the sound test. The building was made to make it easy to hear without the use of a microphone so a missionary stood at the pulpit and dropped a straight pin and we could hear it all the way in the back of the building. We toured the Conference Center, the North and South Visitors Centers, the Joseph Smith Building....we showed this kids where our wedding reception was held, and we saw the Joseph movie on the super huge screen. We also went to the very top of the church office building and were able to look out over the city. As we walked into the Church Office Building there were signs pointing to the elevators indicating the observation deck. Alexa started to walk through the security gate and set off the alarms. It scared her a bit...but a funny memory. We were then escorted to the 26th floor. We also visited the Church History Museum and ate a yummy lunch in the ZCMI food court.
The highlight of just about every building we went into was the escalators...who knew how fascinating they could be. The kids wanted to ride every single one. No matter what.

I am related to John Taylor on the Soderborg side of my family and this is a bust of John Taylor located in the Conference Center....apparently you can see the family resemblance.

Bountiful

We left Provo and headed to Bountiful to stay with my grandparents. My grandma is forever coming up with creative ideas and this trip was no exception. On Wednesday night we went up Mueller Park canyon and roasted hot dogs, made smores and doughies. Grandma had the kids decorate logs to put into the fire on Wednesday afternoon. She took the kids down to "The Gulley" to pick out the log that they wanted to decorate. My cousin Kae was in town from Arizona and her kids came over to decorate too. Grandma made scones..yum and we had a good time visiting. That evening the kids had a great time playing in the creek and sliding down the mountain. There wasn't a clean Page kid in sight...It was fun to see and catch up with cousins, aunts and uncles.

My grandpa does some amazing things with pieces of wood and a knife. He recently returned from Alaska where he had located the perfect walking stick to keep as a memory. He carved places he had visited into the wood and the date he was there. He proudly showed this souvenir to my kids and Alexa was hooked. She wanted to make a walking stick as well. Grandpa set her up in the garage with the perfect stick and a knife and she was on her way. Mackenzie and Dayton had to make one too...so we transported 3 personalized walking sticks across the country. The memories for my kids.... priceless.
